Membership Experience
An important factor in maintaining a healthy and fun club depends on membership experience. Our Kiwanis Club participates in a variety of projects throughout the year that involve fundraising, community service, and assisting children locally as well as worldwide.
Our meetings are usually one hour. Sometimes longer depending on how many laughs we are having. We invite speakers that are expert in topics pertaining to our interests and we engage in a number of social activities to share experiences, talents and our collective interests. All represent great opportunities for service, friendships and personal growth.
Member Expectations
The Club operates similar to the 3-2-1 concept: 3 hours of service, 2 hours of social activity and a 1-hour meeting each month. Each member is expected to introduce at least one new prospective member to the club each year. Communication is key to a healthy club, so the expectation is that members attend at least one meeting a month.
Club Member Education
Kiwanis offers many opportunities for education, such as online modules, classroom sessions and tutorial videos. No matter if you’re a brand new member or seasoned veteran, Kiwanis education resources help you make the most of your Club experience. In addition to tutorials and videos, self-paced modules in Kiwanis’ online learning system will lead you through resources, orientation and more.
Our Impact
Service is at the heart of every Kiwanis club, no matter where in the world it’s located. Kiwanis members stage nearly 150,000 service projects, devote more than 6 million hours of service and raise nearly US$100 million every year for communities, families and projects. Key Club, CKI and AKtion Club members pitch in over 12,500,000 hours of service each year. Add it all up, and that’s more than 18 million hours of service every year!
VOLUNTEER WITH KIWANIS
The Kiwanis Club of the Central Okanagan invites you to volunteer with us at some of our projects.
Kids Need Kiwanis! Kiwanis Needs YOU!!
Do you like to volunteer but don’t like to attend meetings?
Then we have an opportunity for you. The Kiwanis Club of the Central Okanagan would like to extend some of their programs and we think this may be a perfect opportunity for YOU! We need more volunteers!
What would it involve?
Some of our programs, such as our signature program, Chefs In The Classroom Series during the months of April and May would better suit your interests. Some of our programs, such as Terrific Kids requires only a couple of hours a month.
Maybe you only want to volunteer four (4) hours a month or just be on the “call list”. Whatever works for you would work for us.
By growing our volunteer base, we would be able to expand our programs and provide the necessary volunteers to keep them running.
What is my obligation? Do I have to join Kiwanis to just volunteer?
Don’t worry… no one will put pressure on you to join and pay a membership fee or attend our club meetings. However, our meetings, events and socials are always open for guests to visit and get involved.
The obligation would be:
Attend a training/information session about Kiwanis and the event where you will be volunteering.
Turn up at the time you committed to volunteer at the event.
Be a representative of the Kiwanis Club of the Central Okanagan.
Why should I volunteer for Kiwanis? What are my benefits?
Do you enjoy working with children?
Do you want to support our community?
Do you enjoy socializing with friends?
Kiwanis is all of that. Kiwanis Club of the Central Okanagan is dedicated to serving children within Kelowna and surrounding area (School District 23 boundaries). We support and volunteer at many events / programs that support children’s health, cultural experiences and just plain fun. We hope that you may be inspired to become a Kiwanis member.
